One invoice generator for GST and non-GST bills

An invoice is the bill you give a customer for what you sold: who sold it, to whom, what, for how much and when it's due. This generator makes both kinds Indian businesses need: a GST invoice if you're registered, and a plain invoice without GST if you aren't.

Registered under GST? Your invoice is a tax invoice. It shows your GSTIN, the buyer's GSTIN if they have one, HSN/SAC codes and the GST charged: CGST + SGST within your state, IGST across states. Our GST invoice format page has the full Rule 46 checklist.

Not registered? You can't charge or collect GST (Section 32 of the CGST Act), so your bill shows the prices and the total, with no GST on it.

Need something other than an invoice? Send a quotation or proforma before the sale, a delivery challan to move goods without a sale, a purchase order when you buy, and a credit or debit note to correct an invoice. Each has its own free format, linked below.

Invoice format: what every invoice should show

A GST-registered business must follow Rule 46 of the CGST Rules (the full checklist is on our GST invoice format page). Whether you charge GST or not, a clear invoice carries:

  • Your business name, address and contact details.
  • A unique invoice number and the invoice date.
  • The customer's name and address.
  • What you supplied: description, quantity, unit and rate.
  • The total, and the amount in words.
  • When and how to pay: the due date, and your bank details or UPI.
  • If you're GST-registered: your GSTIN, the buyer's GSTIN if they have one, HSN/SAC codes, and the GST rate and amount.
  • A signature, or 'For [your business]' above an authorised signatory.

How to make an invoice with this generator

  1. Add your business

Type your business name and address. Add your GSTIN if you're registered under GST; leave it blank if you aren't.

  2. Add your customer

Type the customer's name and address, and their GSTIN if they have one.

  3. Add what you sold

For each line, enter the item, quantity, unit and rate. For a GST invoice, add the HSN/SAC code and GST rate too. With no GSTIN of your own, the invoice charges no GST and leaves the GST columns out.

  4. Let it add up

The editor works out the totals and, on a GST invoice, the CGST + SGST or IGST from the two GSTINs. It can round off to the rupee and writes the amount in words.

  5. Help it get paid

Add a due date, your bank details and a UPI QR code for the invoice amount, plus your terms and a note.

  6. Pick a look

Choose the Modern, Classic or Minimal template, a colour and a font size.

  7. Download it

Press Download and sign up free for the PDF. Your free account also saves clients and items, tracks payments and runs recurring invoices.

Frequently asked questions

Bill kaise banaye?

Upar ke generator mein apna naam-pata, customer ki details aur har item ki quantity aur rate bhariye. GST registered hain to GSTIN, HSN/SAC aur GST rate bhi daaliye; total aur amount in words khud ban jayenge. Phir free sign up karke PDF download kijiye.

Is this invoice generator free?

Yes. Building an invoice here is free and needs no sign-up. Downloading it needs a free CredHill account, with no credit card.

Can I make a bill without GST?

Yes, if you aren't registered under GST. Leave your GSTIN blank: the invoice charges no GST and leaves the GST columns out. A regular GST-registered business must issue a tax invoice with GST on taxable sales.

Do I need GST registration to make an invoice?

No. Anyone can issue an invoice, but only a GST-registered business can charge GST on it. Registration becomes compulsory once your turnover crosses the limit for your state and type of business, and in some cases whatever your turnover.

What is a bill of supply?

The bill a GST-registered business issues instead of a tax invoice when it's on the composition scheme or makes an exempt sale. It carries no GST, and a composition dealer must print 'composition taxable person, not eligible to collect tax on supplies' at the top.

Can I add a UPI QR code to my invoice?

Yes. Add your UPI ID with your bank details, and the invoice shows a QR code for its amount, so your customer can pay by scanning it in any UPI app.

Which format should I use?

If you're GST-registered, use the GST invoice format; it lists everything Rule 46 asks for. Before a sale, send a quotation or proforma; to move goods without a sale, a delivery challan; to fix an invoice later, a credit or debit note.

Is what I type saved?

While you build it, your invoice is kept only in this browser; nothing is sent to our servers. When you sign up, it moves into your account so you can save, download and share it.
